Easter sermon series ideas and graphics for 2027
Easter 2027 is Sunday, March 28. There are three good ways to plan the preaching around it: a series through Lent that ends on Easter, a short series for Holy Week, or a stand-alone Easter Sunday followed by a new series that starts the week after. Whichever you pick, start promoting it in February, and give Easter Sunday the same artwork as the series, so guests recognize it on social media before they arrive.
The dates for 2027
- Ash Wednesday: February 10. Lent begins.
- First Sunday of Lent: February 14.
- Palm Sunday: March 21.
- Good Friday: March 26.
- Easter Sunday: March 28.
- The Sunday after Easter: April 4.
Option 1: a series through Lent
Six Sundays from February 14 to Palm Sunday, then Easter as the last week. Walk through the last weeks of Jesus' life, the people around the cross, or the "I am" sayings in John that lead there. It gives you time to build up to Easter, and the people who come every week will invite friends to the last one.
Option 2: a Holy Week series
Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter, one series across the three. "It Is Finished" and "Famous Last Words" work well, with the words Jesus spoke from the cross on Good Friday. If you hold a Maundy Thursday service, make it part of the series too. Our Holy Week graphics post has a day-by-day list of what each service needs.
Option 3: Easter, then a new series
Many guests who come on Easter come back the next Sunday if there's a reason to. Make Easter Sunday its own message, then start a new series on April 4 and announce it on Easter, with the title slide on screen and an invite card in every seat. The resurrection appearances (the road to Emmaus, Thomas, breakfast on the beach) make a good four- to six-week series to follow.
Easter series titles
People search for these every spring. A few that work, with the passage to start from:
- He Is Risen (Matthew 28)
- It Is Finished (John 19:30)
- Death Could Not Hold Him (Acts 2:24)
- The Tomb Is Empty (Luke 24)
- This Changes Everything (1 Corinthians 15)
- Road to the Cross (Luke 9:51 to 23)
- Alive or Risen, plain and easy to read from the back row
The graphics, and when to post them
- Title slide. On screen every Sunday of the series and on Easter.
- Notes slide. Each week's title and passage, with the same art behind it.
- Social post and story. Each week, plus the Easter invite.
- Facebook cover. Swap it in on Ash Wednesday or Palm Sunday, depending on when your series starts.
- Invite cards. The social post prints as a 4 x 5 inch card. Hand them out on Palm Sunday so people can invite someone to Easter.
- Lower thirds. The week's title and passage on the livestream.
Announce a Lent series on February 7, the Sunday before it starts. Start pushing Easter itself on March 7, three weeks out, with a post listing every service time.
