Advent sermon series ideas, with artwork for all four weeks
Advent 2026 starts Sunday, November 29 and runs four Sundays to December 20, with Christmas Eve on Thursday the 24th. A good Advent series gives each Sunday a clear theme and one look that carries from the first slide to the Christmas Eve program. Here are six series that work, with templates for each.
Plan the graphics for four weeks, not one
A series needs more than a title slide. Plan for these from the start:
- A title slide for the series, shown every week.
- A notes slide with the week's title and scripture. Same art, new words each Sunday.
- A blank background for lyrics and the Advent candle reading.
- A social post and a story each week, so people who missed a Sunday can catch up.
- A lower third with the week's title for the livestream.
Most of the templates below come with all of those, so the only design work each week is typing a new title.
The names of Jesus
Isaiah 9:6 gives you four weeks on its own: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. It's familiar enough that people can follow along, and it ends where Christmas Eve begins, with a child born and a son given.
Hope, peace, joy and love
The four Advent candles, one per Sunday. It's the most traditional series on this list, and that's its strength: it lines up with the candle lighting, so the screen and the front of the room say the same thing. Put the week's word on the notes slide and on the candle-lighting slide.
The people of Christmas
A week each on Mary, Joseph, the shepherds and the wise men. Each one met the news differently, and most people in your seats will see themselves in one of them. The Cast of Christmas template already draws four of them: the parents, the shepherds, the child and the wise men.
The promises Christmas kept
Four Old Testament promises and how Jesus kept them: Isaiah 7:14 (a virgin will conceive), Micah 5:2 (a ruler from Bethlehem), Isaiah 9:6 (a child is born) and Isaiah 11:1 (a shoot from the stump of Jesse). A good fit for a church that wants Advent to feel like a Bible study.
The songs of Christmas
Preach the carols your church will sing anyway: "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel," "Joy to the World," "O Holy Night" and "Silent Night." Tell the story behind the hymn, open the scripture it comes from, and sing it at the end of the message. The lyrics and the sermon slides can share the same art, so the whole service looks like one thing.
An honest Christmas
For the people who find December hard: an empty chair at the table, a tight budget, a calendar with no room in it. Four weeks on rest, loneliness, disappointment and hope, from the parts of the Christmas story that were hard too: no room at the inn, a long trip at the worst time, Simeon and Anna's years of waiting. Less sparkle, more honesty. Guests who are struggling will notice.
Promote it like an event
An Advent series is the easiest invite of the year, because people already expect to go to church in December. Announce it on Sunday, November 22, the week before it starts, with the title slide and a social post. Each week after, post the week's title with a one-line summary. On Christmas Eve, put the series art on the screens as people arrive, so guests see the design they saw online. The Christmas Eve post has a full plan for that night.
