How to promote a worship night: names, graphics and a three-week social plan

Worship Night title slide: bold white lettering with a microphone and hand-drawn yellow stars on a dark background

A worship night needs five graphics: a title slide for Sunday announcements, a social post, a story, a Facebook event cover and a blank background for lyrics on the night itself. Announce it three weeks out, post once a week, and switch to daily stories in the last three days. Use one design for all of it, so the post someone saw on Tuesday matches the screen they walk in to.

What is a worship night?

A worship night is an evening gathering that's mostly singing and prayer, with a short word from Scripture instead of a full sermon. Some churches hold one a month, some once a season, some to open a new year or close out a summer. It's often the easiest event to invite a friend to, because there's nothing to sign up for. You just show up.

Names that work

Call it what people will search for. "Worship night" is what most people type, so put those words somewhere on the graphic, even if the night has its own name.

  • Worship Night. Plain and clear.
  • Night of Worship or An Evening of Worship. A little more formal.
  • Worship and Prayer Night. When prayer gets as much time as the songs.
  • Summer Worship Nights. For a run of them, one a week or one a month.
  • Young Adults Worship Night, Youth Worship Night, Women's Worship Night. Name who it's for, so the right people know it's for them.

If it happens every month, give it one name and keep it. People start to recognize it.

The graphics checklist

Before the night

  • Title slide. In the Sunday announcements for three weeks.
  • Social post (4:5). The main announcement, and the one people share.
  • Story (9:16). For reminders and the countdown.
  • Facebook event. Use the title slide as the event image so everything matches.

On the night

  • Title slide or a motion loop on the screens while people come in.
  • Blank background. The same art without the words, for lyrics.
  • Notes slide. For a verse to read together or a prayer prompt between songs.
  • Lower thirds. Song titles or a Scripture reference along the bottom of the livestream.
  • A next-steps slide at the end: the date of the next worship night, or one way to get connected.

A three-week social plan

  • Three weeks out. Announce it on Sunday with the title slide. Post the social graphic that afternoon and create the Facebook event.
  • Two weeks out. Post a short clip from rehearsal or a list of a few songs you'll sing. Run a story with a question sticker: "What song do you want to sing?"
  • One week out. Announce it from the stage again. Post the graphic with the time and place, and ask people to share it with one friend.
  • The last three days. A story each day with a countdown sticker. On the day, post "tonight" with the time the doors open.
  • The day after. A thank-you post with photos and the date of the next one.

That's about six posts and a handful of stories. Between them, post about everything else your church is doing.

What to put on the graphic

  • The name, big. "Worship Night" should be readable from across the room.
  • Day, date and time. "Friday, February 19, 7 pm." If doors open earlier, say "doors at 6:30."
  • Where. Your address, or the room if it isn't the main auditorium.
  • Who it's for, if it isn't everyone.
  • Childcare, if you offer it. Parents want to know before they decide.

Keep the graphic to what fits in a two-second look on a phone. Everything else goes in the caption.

On the screens that night

The lights will be low, so make the lyrics big and high-contrast on the blank background, and keep them in the lower part of the screen so the band stays visible. Show fewer lines per slide than on Sunday morning. Between songs, put the title slide or a slow motion loop back up instead of a black screen.

Getting it done

Most of our worship night templates come with a title slide, blank background, notes slide, social post, story and Facebook cover as ready-made images and layered Photoshop files. Change the date and time and they're ready. Edit in Photoshop, in Photopea (free, in your browser) or in Remix Studio, our browser editor, where 700+ templates open ready to edit on the Standard and Pro plans. Pro members can also ask us to retitle a template for them.
